My makeup routine as a 30-year-old black woman has evolved to accommodate my changing skin. What’s in my makeup bag may not be the same as what’s in yours but it reflects my specific skincare and makeup requirements. In this article, I’ll discuss some of the essential items that I always keep in my makeup bag, as well as why they’re so important to me.
Sunscreen
Sun protection is especially important to me as a black woman. I keep sunscreen with at least SPF 30 in my makeup bag at all times to protect my skin from sun damage. It was not always a habit to wear sunscreen but now it is something I don’t compromise on. Sunscreen is important to prevent uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and even skin cancer.
Foundation
My foundation selection can vary from season to season. I like to use a high-quality, full-coverage foundation to even out my skin tone and provide a smooth foundation for the rest of my makeup. Bare in mind that a good skincare routine is very important for flawless makeup application. I prefer a matte to a satin finish, and I usually look for a foundation with a shade range that includes darker skin tones, as I know it can be difficult to find a perfect match.
